In-form winger Madueke scores for the third game in a row as Chelsea beaten by Real Madrid
Published: August 07, 2024
Super Eagles-eligible forward Noni Madueke was on the scoresheet for the third consecutive game as Chelsea lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in their last fixture for the US pre-season tour played at the Bank of America Stadium.
Despite a bright start for the English side, it was the European champions that took the lead in the 19th minute, as Dani Ceballos tucked a deflected shot home.
Eight minutes later, Real Madrid got a two-goal cushion with Brahim Diaz skipping past new Blues' goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to put the ball into the empty net after Vinicius Jr.had slipped a through ball to his feet.
Madueke halved the deficit for the English side, heading the ball past Thibaut Courtois, courtesy of an in-swinging cross from Enzo Fernández to net his third goal in the US pre-season tour.
The 22-year-old will now head back to London alongside his teammates with a lot of confidence heading into the new campaign though Chelsea will still play one more pre-season fixture before their Premier League opener against Manchester City.
Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka, Tyrique George and Tosin Adarabioyo were in the matchday squad but didn't feature in the encounter as Enzo Maresca made just three changes in the game.
The two-time European champions will next face Serie A giants Inter Milan at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to put an end to their pre-season games.
