Chelsea book medical for Super Eagles-eligible player ahead of completing transfer
Published: August 08, 2024
Chelsea are set to schedule a medical examination for Super Eagles-eligible player Samu Omorodion as they prepare to finalize his transfer from Atletico Madrid.
The Blues have reportedly secured the Nigerian-born striker's signature in a deal valued at £34.5 million and he is expected to sign a seven-year contract with the Premier League club following the medical.
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano shared on X that Chelsea are pushing to book the medical in Paris today.
Chelsea are aiming to wrap up the transfer after nearly a month of negotiations with Atletico Madrid.
Once the deal is completed, Omorodion will compete for a spot alongside Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Marc Guiu, a young talent recently signed from Barcelona.
Omorodion is currently participating in the 2024 Olympics with Spain in France.
The 20-year-old forward made a brief appearance in Spain's 2-1 victory over Morocco, securing their place in the Olympic final.
Throughout the tournament, Omorodion has made four appearances and scored in the group-stage match against Egypt.
His impressive performances at Alaves, where he played on loan from Atletico Madrid, caught Chelsea's attention.
Omorodion scored eight goals and provided one assist in 34 La Liga games, sparking interest from several top European clubs including Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen.
