Confirmed: After Ndidi, another Nigerian midfielder signs new deal at Leicester City
Published: August 09, 2024
With a statement on their official website. Premier League new boys Leicester City have informed that new professional contracts have been handed to eleven players from the club's academy ranks.
Toby Onanaye, 18, has committed his future to the Foxes by putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Onanaye is the second Nigerian midfielder to sign a new deal with Leicester City ahead of the forthcoming season, following in the footsteps of Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi.
Ndidi ended speculation about his future after inking a fresh three-year contract in July, keeping him at the King Power Stadium until at least the end of the 2026-2027 season.
Onanaye, who is uncapped at international level, keeps abreast of developments in the Super Eagles by following the senior national team on social media.
He has been at Leicester City since the Foundation Phase (U19 - U12), rising through the youth team ranks to sign a pro deal.
Since making his debut against Fulham in the U18 Premier League in September 2022, he has appeared in 34 matches in the division, scoring four goals while producing five assists.
Onanaye will be hoping to emulate the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Harvey Barnes, Andy King and Ben Chilwell who came through the club's pathway to make their first team debuts for Leicester.
He is expected to feature for Leicester City's development squad in the forthcoming season.
