'Was a handful' - Former Celtic midfielder hails Rangers striker Dessers after scoring in back-to-back games
Published: August 10, 2024
Former Celtic Women midfielder Leanne Crichton praised Cyriel Dessers after the Nigerian forward made it two goals in as many games as Rangers registered their first win of the season in a Scottish Premiership encounter against Motherwell at Hampden Park on Saturday.
Dessers was Rangers' savior in their UEFA Champions League meeting with Dynamo Kyiv four days ago, with his stoppage time strike preventing the Light Blues from suffering defeat.
And he picked up where he left off against the Ukrainian Premier League side, needing less than thirteen minutes to open the scoring in a 2-1 win versus Motherwell.
The Rangers number 9 got on the end of a delivery from Mohamed Diomande and squeezed a finish past the Motherwell goalkeeper Aston Oxborough.
Dessers could have opened the scoring seconds earlier but his finish was saved by the boot of the goalkeeper.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene, former Scotland international Crichton stated: "Rangers were really good in the first half, so many good individual performances, Vaclav Cerny being the stand-out. Connor Barron was excellent and Cyriel Dessers was a handful.
"But it all fizzled out in the second half."
Dessers' goal was canceled out by an own goal from Robin Propper in the 17th minute but Vaclav Cerny's stunning strike seven minutes later proved to be the match-winning goal.
Three Nigerian players were on parade at the National Stadium in Scotland, as Leon Balogun and Moses Ebiye entered the game as substitutes in the second half.
