Solanke's replacement: Bournemouth target AS Roma striker previously courted by Nigerian Federation
Published: August 10, 2024
Bournemouth are in the market for a replacement for Dominic Solanke who ended his five-year association with the Cherries after completing a club-record move to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, August 10.
According to The Mirror UK, Tammy Abraham is one of the attackers being considered by the Cherries recruitment team to fill the void left by the departure of the one-cap England international of Nigerian descent.
Former Nigeria Football Federation president now a Fifa Council member Amaju Pinnick attempted to convince Abraham and Fikayo Tomori to pledge their international futures to Nigeria before they became cap-tied to the Three Lions after featuring in competitive games against Czech Republic and Kosovo respectively in 2019.
Abraham, a Cobham product just like Solanke, is open to returning to the Premier League, three years after joining Roma on a permanent deal.
Roma are keen to get Abraham off the wage bill following the signing of Artem Dovbyk, who won the Pichichi prize as the top goalscorer in last season's La Liga.
Since landing in the Italian capital, the 26-year-old has tallied 37 goals and provided 13 assists in 119 appearances across all competitions.
Abraham has an excellent relationship with Bournemouth's President of Football Operations Tiago Pinto who brokered the deal that brought him to the Giallorossi in 2021.
The centre-forward missed large parts of the 2023-2024 season due to a cruciate ligament injury and only started two competitive matches.
Abraham has a contract with Roma until the end of the 2025-2026 season and played in 89 games in the Premier League, scoring 26 goals before moving to the Serie A.
