Ezenwata enhances burgeoning reputation with brace for Chelsea youth team coached by Nigerian
Published: August 11, 2024
Nigerian striker Chizzy Ezenwata enhanced his reputation as one of the most exciting schoolboys in English football by scoring for the second weekend in a row as a Chelsea youth team coached by Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Saturday, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Ezenwata put his name on the score sheet as Chelsea U18s defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-2 in a pre-season friendly last weekend.
And he followed that up with a brilliant individual performance against one of the top academy sides in England, Manchester United, winners of the national title, U18 Premier League North title and the Premier League Cup in 2023-2024.
Ezenwata bagged a brace but it was not enough to see Chelsea secure a win against Manchester United.
The game against the Red Devils was a milestone for the talented defender-turned-center forward as it was his first ninety minutes for Chelsea U18s.
Given his form in pre-season, Ezenwata is in the frame to make his competitive debut for Chelsea U18s in the first half of the 2024-2025 season.
Several exciting strikers of Nigerian descent are products of Chelsea's Cobham academy including Dominic Solanke, Tammy Abraham and Ike Ugbo, and Ezenwata has been tipped to follow in their footsteps.
After a strong showing in pre-season, it remains unclear if Hassan Sulaiman will choose Ezenwata for his team's U18 Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion at Cobham on August 17, 2024.
