Napoli ready to step up pursuit of Chelsea striker despite uncertainty over future of Osimhen
Published: August 12, 2024
According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli are already to step up their effort to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku in the coming days despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of star forward Victor Osimhen.
The Italian giants had long identified the Belgium record top scorer as Osimhen's replacement due to his past working relationship with their manager Antonio Conte.
The interest in Lukaku has been hinged on the Nigerian striker leaving Naples but Napoli are now ready to continue their effort to sign the Belgian striker regardless of the position of the latter's future with the club.
The Parthenopeans had to rely on penalties to get past lower division side Modena in the first round of the Copa Italia on Saturday and that informed Conte's comment about the club needing injection of more quality after the encounter.
It appears that the Italian giants are now ready to grant the request of their manager by the signing of Lukaku who is one of his top targets.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that they will contact Chelsea over the signing of the former Everton forward in the coming days.
"Chelsea know that Napoli are prepared to attack the situation for Romelu Lukaku to make an official bid. Napoli have an agreement with Romelu Lukaku on the contract," Romano said.
"It is already weeks now since they agreed on contract terms with Romelu Lukaku- three year contract, the salary is okay, The player is already talking directly to Antonio Conte.
"Now it is time to close the deal and Napoli next week are prepared to get in touch with Chelsea again to reach an agreement and bring Romelu Lukaku to Antonio Conte. So Napoli will be ready busy with Lukaku in the next few days."
It remains to be seen whether the arrival of the Lukaku will hasten the departure of Osimhen who remains a subject of interest from Chelsea and PSG.
