Reading striker Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan named in EFL League One Team of the Week
Published: August 12, 2024
Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan has been recognized for his outstanding performance for Reading on the opening weekend of the season, with football statistics website Whoscored naming the striker in its EFL League One Team of the Week
The Nigerian-born forward netted Reading's first goal of the campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City at St Andrew's on Saturday, August 10.
Three minutes before halftime, Ehibhatiomhan was in the right place and made no mistake, slotting into the bottom corner after a through ball from Lewis Wing left the Birmingham defence wide open.
New signing Alfie May scored from the spot in the 87th minute to salvage a draw for the hosts, two minutes after the Nigerian was replaced.
The lanky striker won two aerial duels, registered a team high two shots on target with one ending up in the back of the net and won two fouls for his team.
Ehibhatiomhan was awarded a rating of 7.75, the top rated player in the Reading side.
In a 4-4-2 formation, he was paired in attack next to Kyle Wootton, who was involved in both goals in Stockport County's victory over Cambridge United.
Last season, Ehibhatiomhan tallied eleven goals from forty seven appearances across all competitions, including five strikes in the third tier of English football.
Since making his senior debut for the Royals, he has appeared in 58 games and scored fourteen goals.
