Ex-Newcastle United star advises wantaway Napoli striker Osimhen to join Arsenal instead of Chelsea
Published: August 14, 2024
Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has advised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to avoid a move to Chelsea and instead consider joining Arsenal.
The wantaway Napoli striker has been linked with several top European clubs during the summer transfer window, including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.
Chelsea recently emerged as a strong contender for Osimhen’s signature, especially after talks between Napoli and PSG broke down.
Reports suggest that Chelsea are exploring a potential loan deal with an option to buy, which could involve Romelu Lukaku moving to Napoli as part of the exchange.
However, Osimhen, who has expressed a desire to leave Napoli this summer, reportedly rejected the idea of a loan move, insisting on a permanent transfer.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding Osimhen's future, Hislop offered his advice during an ESPN broadcast on YouTube, encouraging the Nigerian striker to choose Arsenal over Chelsea.
Hislop emphasized that Osimhen would be a perfect fit for the Gunners, who are also in the market for a striker during the summer window.
When asked where Osimhen should go if he leaves Napoli, Hislop responded, "Anywhere at this point. I think he will be great at Arsenal."
Osimhen, who signed a contract extension with Napoli in December 2023, has a release clause reportedly set between €120 million and €130 million.
Despite this, his future remains uncertain, as many European clubs are hesitant to meet the hefty release clause valuation.
