Unregistered Sevilla number 9 Iheanacho in travelling squad to face Las Palmas; Ejuke also called up
Published: August 15, 2024
García Pimienta has announced his first squad list as manager of Sevilla ahead of his side's La Liga opener against Las Palmas at Estadio de Gran Canaria (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), kickoff 2030 hours.
Pimienta has made three interesting selections by naming Kelechi Iheanacho, Lucien Agoumé and Gonzalo Montiel in his squad list despite the trio not registered to play in La Liga as of now.
Iheanacho's international teammate Chidera Ejuke is in contention to make his competitive debut for the Andalusian club as he was included in the list of twenty six players that traveled to Las Palmas on Thursday.
The two Super Eagles forwards trained with the Sevilla team on Thursday morning before departing for the Canary Islands.
For the new season, Iheanacho has been assigned number 9, while compatriot Ejuke will play with the number 21 on the back of his jersey.
Sevilla are working hard to register either Iheanacho or Lucien Agoumé before the clash against Las Palmas.
If given the green light to feature tomorrow night, the former Manchester City and Leicester City striker will compete with Gerard Fernández 'Peque', Lucas Ocampos, Isaac Romero and Dodi Lukebakio for a place in the forward line.
Iheanacho missed a large part of pre-season preparations, with his transfer to Sevilla completed at the end of July.
The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner was not called up for the friendly versus Fulham on August 5 and made his unofficial debut against Liverpool in Sevilla's last preparatory game.
