'We are still at early stages' - Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea yet to present contract proposal to Osimhen
Published: August 16, 2024
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has shed light on the ongoing negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli concerning Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku and Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.
Romano highlighted the complexities surrounding the deal. The Super Eagles star, who is currently on Napoli's books, has become a key target for the Blues.
However, the Belgian striker is also a key target for Napoli due to the keen interest from Antonio Conte.
The former Chelsea manager has chosen him as a key component of his Napoli project.
In his recent YouTube broadcast, Fabrizio provided an update on the transfer speculations, revealing that Chelsea had communicated their interest in Osimhen to Napoli.
Despite the revelation from Chelsea, Romano made it clear that no formal contract proposal has been presented to Osimhen as of now.
"During this (negotiation with Napoli for Lukaku), Chelsea told Napoli clearly that they have Victor Osimhen on their list, and they want to make a move for him. But Chelsea have not presented a contract proposal to Victor Osimhen," Romano revealed.
The negotiations between the parties concerning Osimhen are still in their early stages. Romano emphasized that Chelsea will need to engage with the player's camp before advancing to crucial phases of the potential deal.
"We are still at the early stages. Chelsea still need to do some work on the player side before saying we are at the key stages of the Osimhen story," he added.
For Napoli, Osimhen's future remains a delicate issue. Despite interest from several top clubs, no team has been willing to meet Napoli's valuation of the striker, which hovers between €120 million and €130 million following the release clause inserted in his contract extension in December 2023.
With about two weeks to the end of the summer transfer window, it remains to be seen if Chelsea or any other club will be prepared to meet Napoli's demands for Osimhen.
