Chelsea's interest in Osimhen: Maresca refuses to give anything away
Published: August 16, 2024
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca refused to comment on the club's link to Napoli forward Victor Osimhen during his pre-match conference for the Premier League game against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Stamford Bridge outfit remain one of the teams interested in signing the 2023 Serie A Footballer of the Year as they continue their pursuit to add more attacking threat to their squad.
They have added former Barcelona starlet Marc Guiu and Portuguese winger Pedro Neto to their ranks and were on the verge of completing a deal for Spanish-Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion before the deal collapsed.
The west London club are currently discussing with Napoli about the possibility of signing Osimhen but are not yet to start negotiations with the striker about joining the club.
Speaking ahead of his first ever Premier League as a manager and his first official game in charge of Chelsea, Maresca refused to give anything away upon being asked about the link to Osimhen and João Félix.
In quotes relayed by Football.London, he said: "The only thing I can say, I have to say the same: They are not our players, so it's not correct to talk about a Napoli player or an Atletico Madrid player."
The Italian tactician response comes as no surprise as it is not uncommon for managers to play down talks regarding players their clubs are being linked with.
Signing Osimhen will be the least of his problems at the moment, as he will be seeking to begin his reign as the Blues' manager with a victory over Manchester City on Sunday at the Stamford Bridge.
