Juventus, Napoli, Real Sociedad pushing to sign Omorodion after failed PL move
Published: August 18, 2024
Spain U23 international of Nigerian descent Samu Omorodion was on the brink of joining Premier League giants Chelsea but the deal collapsed at the last minute.
The proposed deal would have seen the Atlético de Madrid striker join Chelsea on a seven-year contract for a fee of 40 million euros, with Conor Gallagher moving in the opposite director for a similar fee.
It is claimed that the deal fell through despite the player passing a medical because Chelsea failed to reach a club-to-club agreement with their Spanish counterparts.
According to Spanish media outlet Relevo, the 2024 Olympics gold medalist is wanted by La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, amid speculation surrounding the future of their Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar and former Spain U21 international forward Carlos Fernández.
Real Sociedad face competition for the services of the dual-national center forward in the form of Italian duo Napoli and Juventus.
While the interested clubs are considering a loan deal, Atlético de Madrid want an outright sale so they can complete a deal for Conor Gallagher.
Omorodion has not yet been registered by the Madrid club for La Liga ahead of their opener against Villarreal but are planning to complete the process before the season officially begins.
Should the 20-year-old remain at Los Colchoneros at the end of the summer transfer window, he faces stiff competition for a starting shirt as the club have already completed the signings of Alexander Sörloth and Julián Alvarez for a combined fee of 107 million euros.
Not much is known about Samu's father but it has been confirmed that he can play for the Super Eagles thanks to his Nigerian mother, Edith Aghehowa.
