Nigerian midfielder closing in on a move from Manchester United to Legia Warsaw
Published: August 20, 2024
15-time Polish champions, Legia Warsaw are close to completing the signing of talented Manchester United midfielder of Nigerian descent Maxi Oyedele.
Oyedele has not played competitively for the youth teams of the Red Devils in the new season and was not called up for the Community Shield clash versus Manchester City plus the Premier League game against Fulham last Friday, an indication that he could be leaving Old Trafford before the close of the transfer window.
According to The Daily Mail, Oyedele is in talks with Legia Warsaw over a transfer this summer.
The 19-year-old is expected to cost Legia Warsaw a low transfer fee but Manchester United have inserted a significant sell-on clause into the proposed deal taking him to the Polish giants in the event of a transfer before the expiration of his contract.
Oyedele is keen on leaving Manchester United in search of first team opportunities, with the likes of Casemiro, Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Kobbie Mainoo and Scott McTominay ahead of him in manager Erik ten Hag's pecking order of midfielders.
He has been loaned out by Manchester United on two occasions, joining Altrincham in 2023 and Forest Green Rovers in 2024 in England's lower divisions.
The Salford native traveled with the first team to the United States for pre-season preparations, featuring in friendly matches against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool and was also given minutes against Rosenborg and Rangers.
Oyedele, who has been on the books of the Red Devils since the age of eight after he was snapped up from Burnley, is expected to undergo a medical with Legia Warsaw in the coming days ahead of his unveiling.
