'It was great' - Solanke reflects on his Tottenham debut against Leicester City
Published: August 21, 2024
Nine days after Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the signing of Dominic Solanke for a club-record fee, the Super Eagles-eligible center forward made his competitive debut for the north London club against Leicester City in a Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium on Monday, August 19.
The one-cap England international has sealed a move to Tottenham on the back of a breakout 2023-2024 campaign in which he tallied 19 goals in 38 appearances for Bournemouth in the English top flight.
Tottenham Hotspur took the lead in the 29th minute when right-back Pedro Porro made his way to the six-yard area and headed the ball in the net after a cross from Foxes old boy James Maddison.
Three minutes before the hour mark, the ageless Jamie Vardy added to his Leicester City goalscoring tally with the equalizer after Issahaku Fatawu's delivery into the box.
Solanke had two big moments to score a debut goal but he failed to steer his header into the net in the first half before Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen made a stop to deny him in the second half.
The Anglo-Nigerian striker was delighted to make his debut for Spurs and looking forward to more minutes for the club.
"It was great. I've been here now for just over a week and I've been looking forward to this moment," Solanke said to Tottenham's official website.
"It was great to play with the boys in front of the fans but it was disappointing not to get the three points. We'll look at it and improve on it and hopefully get the three points next time."
