Published: August 22, 2024
Maxi Oyedele has departed Manchester United after twelve years of service, the Premier League club announced through their official website on Thursday afternoon.
The versatile midfielder has completed a permanent transfer to Polish Ekstraklasa team Legia Warsaw,
Oyedele has a Polish mother and Nigerian father but was born and raised in Salford, a city close to Manchester.
The 19-year-old was part of the Manchester United team that won the FA Youth Cup in May 2022, playing in every single round including the showpiece against Nottingham Forest.
Previously, Oyedele spent time on loan at Altrincham and Forest Green Rovers, where he played in twelve and four games respectively, scoring four goals.
He was named in Manchester United's traveling squad to the United States for pre-season preparations and was given minutes by manager Erik ten Hag in all the friendly matches.
Oyedele was among the intake of Manchester United academy scholars for the 2021-2022 season and went on to sign his first professional contract in May 2022.
The tri-national player has signed a three-year deal with Legia Warsaw and has been assigned the number 6 jersey for the 2024-2025 campaign.
Oyedele has played 10 matches in total for Poland's U18, U19 and U21 national teams.
Two other academy players of Nigerian descent departed the Red Devils this summer, with history-making midfielder Shola Shoretire joining PAOK in Greece and forward Majid Balogun moving to West Ham on a scholarship deal.
