Snapped: Obi-Martin raises eyebrows as he trains in an Arsenal shirt ahead of Man Utd move
Published: August 23, 2024
Chido Obi-Martin raised eyebrows among the Arsenal supporters after he was pictured wearing a Gunners shirt during a recent personal training session, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Denmark U17 international of Nigerian descent has already agreed a move to Manchester United but the deal has not been completed yet because it has to go through the Premier League's five-step investigation process before the move will be official.
The five-step review is a process of investigation conducted before registering any academy player.
Ahead of Obi-Martins' transfer to Manchester United, he has been working out on his own, but rather than sporting the Red Devils colours, he was caught training in an Arsenal kit.
Arsenal did everything in their power to retain the services of the talented center forward, offering him a pre-scholarship deal and then a professional contract, but Obi-Martin opted to embark on a new chapter in his career.
The Gunners were not prepared to break their wage structure for academy players, presenting the Danish-Nigerian wonderkid with a professional contract of roughly £15,000 per week.
The 16-year-old will join United on a scholarship deal and will sign professional forms on his 17th birthday in November 2024.
Arsenal signed Obi-Martin from the youth team of Danish Superliga giants FC Copenhagen four years ago, edging out London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to land him.
