Confirmed team news: Tottenham's most expensive signing in history ruled out of Everton clash
Published: August 23, 2024
Super Eagles-eligible striker Dominic Solanke will not make his home debut for Tottenham Hotspur when they take on Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, August 24.
The one-cap England international became Tottenham's most expensive signing in history following his £65 million transfer from Bournemouth this month, surpassing Tanguy Ndombélé, whose record stood for five years.
Solanke, who netted 21 goals last season for Bournemouth under Andoni Iraola, had a £65m release clause in his contract in case a major Premier League team showed interest.
Tottenham needed a number 9 after club icon Harry Kane was sold to Bayern Munich last summer.
Nine days after Solanke's transfer was completed, he was in the thick of action as Tottenham and Leicester City shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium.
Speaking to reporters at Friday's pre-match press conference, manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that the dual-national player is unavailable for selection against the Toffees due to an ankle injury he suffered in the season opener with the Foxes.
In quotes relayed by the official webpage of Tottenham, Postecoglou stated: "Dominic picked up a knock in the last game, he got through the game, but he flared up the day after and he’ll miss tomorrow".
Solanke has made nine career appearances against Everton, including eight starts, and put his name on the scoresheet twice.
