Fact or fiction: Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has his say on Arsenal's links with Osimhen
Published: August 23, 2024
Respected Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed reports linking Arsenal to African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen.
The Gunners were linked with the Napoli star early on in this transfer window but rescinded their interest due to his hefty valuation and the club were said to be focusing on other targets.
Recently, reports re-emerged that the North London side are in the race to sign the Nigerian striker as they seek to end the dominance of Manchester City in the Premier League.
Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are the club's first-choice strikers at the moment, but the latter seems to be on the way out, and the former is susceptible to injury, which has led to Mikel Arteta deploying Kai Havertz in that position.
The German forward hasn't done badly leading the line and opened his goalscoring account for the new season in the 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend and he appears to have earned the trust of Arteta.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Romano is ruling out the possibility of Arsenal signing Osimhen before the end of this transfer window.
"There is nothing regarding Arsenal's reported interest from what I know, and it's also not about which team are the favourites to sign him, it's about who can agree with Napoli and with the player."
"Let's see what's going to happen in the final days, but at the moment, it's still quiet." the transfer expert told CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing.
There is uncertainty regarding the next destination of Osimhen as neither Chelsea nor PSG are willing to pay his release clause, coupled with the report that the latter club have cooled their interest in him.
