Super Eagles RB Sodiq names Man Utd, Atletico Madrid as dream clubs; Liverpool star as role model
Published: August 23, 2024
Super Eagles right-back, Ismaila Sodiq has revealed his dream of playing for European giants Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, citing them as the clubs he aspires to join in the future.
In an interview with allnigeriasoccer.com, the Nigerian defender, who has been making waves with his performances on the domestic scene with Remo Stars, also named Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold as his role model.
"I would like to say Arnold of Liverpool. The way he crosses the ball and even the way he dresses," Ismaila said, praising Alexander-Arnold's influence as a modern full-back and his ability to impact the game from the right side of defense.
When asked about his dream European teams, Sodiq said: "Please can you permit me to pick two because I love Manchester United and Atletico Madrid."
Three months ago, Sodiq received his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Republic of Benin.
He made his international debut on June 10, 2024, in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in Ivory Coast.
Sodiq is currently with Remo Stars in Morocco, preparing for the second leg of the CAF Champions League clash with AS FAR.
The promising full-back played a crucial role in his team's 2-1 victory in the first leg, scoring a remarkable diving header reminiscent of Robin van Persie's iconic goal during the 2014 World Cup.
