Super Eagles watch: Fulham midfielder Iwobi opens season account; Rangers striker Dessers at the double
Published: August 24, 2024
Alex Iwobi was on the scoresheet for Fulham during 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League while Cyriel Dessers also grabbed a brace for Rangers in their Scottish Premiership fixture against Ross County on Saturday afternoon.
Hale End Academy product Emile Smith-Rowe opened the scoring for Fulham with the assistance of Adama Traore in the 18th minute with a precise finish.
Wout Faes restored parity for Leicester City before the end of the first half before Iwobi opened his goalscoring account for the 2024-2025 season to restore Fulham's lead in the 70th minute.
Set up by Antonee Robinson, the Super Eagles midfielder broke free down the left flank and buried the ball past the Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
Just like the former Arsenal starlet, Dessers was also on target for Rangers as they swept aside Ross County.
He opened the scoring in the 18th minute putting the ball expertly beyond the reach of Ross County shot stopper, courtesy of Tom Lawrence's pass.
Rabbi Matondo doubled the Light Blues lead on the stroke of halftime before Dessers grabbed his brace in the 58th minute.
With the assistance of Matondo, the Belgian-born striker fired the ball home to put Philippe Clement's side in total control of the encounter.
A commanding 6-0 victory for Rangers over Ross County was sealed by goals from Lawrence, Matondo and a late 90th-minute effort by Danilo.
