Versatile Nigerian forward Andre Annous continued his fine start to the season by scoring a brace as Arsenal defeated Liverpool 5-3 in an U18 Premier League Cup fixture at Liverpool’s Academy Ground, Merseyside on Wednesday, August 28.
Annous signed a scholarship deal with the Gunners in the off-season and has been promoted to the U18 team on a full-time basis.
The Hale End Academy product was among the standout performers as Arsenal beat West Ham 3-2 on the opening day of the U18 Premier League season, scoring a goal and registering two assists in the London derby.
Against Liverpool, Annous broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when he tapped home after Liverpool goalkeeper spilled a shot from O'Neill.
Dan Casey doubled the Gunners lead from the penalty spot at minute 35 and Annous scored another close range effort a minute later to take his goal involvements to five in the new season.
After Josh Sonni-Lambie pulled one back from the penalty spot, Nigerian defender Louis Enahoro-Marcus further reduced the deficit in the 63rd minute.
Bailey-Joseph curled a beauty into the top corner to make it 4-2, assisted by Flying Eagles-eligible player Zac Shuaib, in the 70th minute.
With around fifteen minutes to go, Fola Onanuga found the net via a deflection but Dowman restored Arsenal's two-goal lead in the 85th minute.
Apart from Annous and Shuaib, Ifeoluwa Ibrahim, Samuel Onyekachukwu and Jayden Adetiba were the other Nigerian players that featured for Arsenal.
Jack Wilshere's team, who have won three consecutive games this term, face West Brom in their next match this coming Saturday.
