End of discussion: Chelsea delegation leave Naples after falling to shake hands with Osimhen
Published: August 30, 2024
Chelsea have failed in their pursuit to sign 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner Victor Osimhen.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Chelsea delegation have now left Naples after failing to reach an agreement with the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
Manager Enzo Maresca is now set to use Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, Christopher Nkunku as his central forward options, at least till the January transfer window.
The west London club have been linked with the Super Eagles forward all summer but their inability to reach an agreement with the striker is the reason behind their failure to get a deal done.
Chelsea were ready to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy but his wage demands was the stumbling block to a deal.
Al-Ahli had reached an agreement with the Parthenopeans over the services of the 25-year-old but reportedly walked out of the deal after the Italian club decided to change the terms.
The Saudi Pro-League side have now opted to sign Ivan Toney and it will be difficult for the club to complete a deal for Osimhen before the transfer window in Saudi Arabia closes on Monday, September 2.
Should he fail to secure a move elsewhere, the Nigerian star will not be regarded as a member of the first team as the relationship between him and Napoli has broken down completely.
Napoli have already signed Romelu Lukaku, thereby making the 2022/2023 Serie A Best Striker dispensable.
