Falconets player ratings v South Korea: Yina steals the show; Sabastine flourishes; Osigwe super-sub; Alani solid
Published: September 02, 2024
The Falconets began their Fifa U20 Women's World Cup campaign with a victory over Korea Republic in the early hours of Monday.
Allnigeriasoccer.com runs the rule over the Nigerian players in action.
The starters
Goalkeeper
Shukurat Bakare: She was decent but almost gave away a goal in the second half due to a bad judgment and was lucky not to have gotten injured very late on in the game. 7/10
Defenders
Comfort Folorunsho: The Edo Queens defender didn't put a foot wrong in the entire game, putting in a decent shift. 7/10
Shukurat Oladipo: She was also decent throughout the game, playing a role in helping Nigeria keep their first clean sheet. 6/10
Oluchi Ohaegbulem: She is the skipper of the team and like rest of the defence was rock solid and was unfortunately given a booking in the 76th minute. 7/10
Jumoke Alani: She was solid the whole game and gave no room for the South Koreans to breach the Nigerian goal 8/10
Midfielders and forwards
Chioma Olise: It was a quiet game for the Edo Queens midfielder as she didn't sparkle during the contest. 6/10
Philomina Yina: An energetic performance from the number 10. She covered lots of ground and contributed to the team's offensive plays. 8.5/10.
Amina Bello: She didn't have a stellar performance and it was unsurprising to see her hooked off. 5.5/10
Rofiat Imuran: She functioned as her midfielder without possession but played as a forward in possession. She nearly created the opener at the start of the second half but was let down by her teammate. 6.5/10
Flourish Sabastine: The Stade de Reims forward grabbed the sole goal of the clash but was quiet before her goal. 7.5/10
Lucky Nkpa: It wasn't the best of showing from the Heartland Queens forward and was rightfully replaced after the hour mark 5/10
The substitutes
Chiamaka Okwuchukwu: She didn't do anything to convince that she should be starting ahead of Nkpa though chances didn't come her way. 5/10
Goodness Osigwe: She nearly got herself on the scoresheet but her effort couldn't find the bottom corner.. Provided the game-winning assist. 7/10
