Vote of confidence: After face-off with Obi Mikel, African striker signs new 9-year deal with Chelsea
Published: September 02, 2024
English Premier League giants Chelsea are on the brink of confirming that African striker Nicolas Jackson has comitted his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract extension.
Off the back of a face-off with club legend John Obi Mikel, Nicolas has signed a nine-year deal with Chelsea which will keep him at the club till the summer of 2033.
As revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal was negotiated by his agent Ali Barat, owner of Epic Sports, with Chelsea being impressed with the striker's performance since his arrival.
The Senegalese striker has received some backlash from Mikel who feels he isn't good enough to lead the line for Chelsea, urging the Blues to sign Victor Osimhen as a result.
Angered by the 2013 AFCON winner's criticism, Jackson hurled insults at the former after opening his goal-scoring in the Blues' 6-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux.
Mikel has since come out to state that he holds nothing against the former Villarreal forward as he wants him to succeed at Stamford Bridge but won't keep quiet whenever he does anything wrong.
Jackson joined Chelsea last summer and has blown hot and cold his though his numbers don't corroborate his indecisiveness in the penalty area.
The 23-year-old has scored 16 non-penalty goals since the start of last season, which is the same number both Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka and Manchester United have scored altogether within that period.
Jackson has scored two goal already this season and the Blues' manager Enzo Maresca has passed a vote of confidence on him, affirming his place in the squad of the two-time UEFA Champions League winners.
