Only Man Utd star has made more interceptions that Ola Aina after first three matchdays in Premier League
Published: September 05, 2024
The Premier League, through the official website, has published the stats leaders after three matchdays in the English top flight, with Nottingham Forest's Nigeria international Ola Aina getting a mention.
Aina has started every single game played by Nottingham Forest in the new season, going the distance against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers while logging 54 minutes in the season opener versus Bournemouth.
No Nigerian featured in the top performing players for goals, assists, speed, chances created, shots, shots conversion rate, passes completed, tackles won, blocks, duels won, successful dribbles and clearances.
When it came to interceptions, Ola Aina was the second highest ranked player with nine across three games, bettered only by Manchester United's England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo who led the way with 11.
Aina registered one interception against Bournemouth, made a game-high three interceptions versus Southampton and his five against Wolves was also a game-high figure.
West Ham United's Guido Rodriguez and Wolves' Mario Lemina are tied in third place with eight each, followed by Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch, Everton's Tim Iroegbunam and Manchester United's Diogo Dalot.
Predominantly a right-back, Ola Aina, who is two-footed, has been deployed at left-back in the new season.
Everything is pointing to the fact that the Chelsea academy product will be named in the Super Eagles' starting lineup to face Benin's Cheetahs on Saturday, given that his main rival for the fullback position Bright Osayi-Samuel pulled out of the squad due to injury.
