'His age doesn't matter' - Ndidi highlights the impact of Vardy in Leicester's draw with Crystal Palace
Published: September 15, 2024
Wilfred Ndidi has praised Jamie Vardy for his performance during Leicester City's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in a Premier League encounter at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening, noting that the striker's age is irrelevant.
Despite his age, Vardy, 37, is showing no signs of slowing down, having netted two goals in the opening four matches of the campaign.
Against Crystal Palace, the evergreen center forward broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, rounding goalkeeper Dean Henderson and slotting home after an excellent through ball from Ndidi.
Twenty seconds into the second half, Leicester City doubled their advantage with Ndidi once again playing a key role in the buildup to the goal.
The Nigeria international did exceptionally well as he was odds on to shoot and possibly score himself but he set up an easier chance for Stephy Mavididi who beautifully tucked the ball home.
Leicester City are still searching for their first Premier League win under new boss Steve Cooper as a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta saw the Eagles earn a share of the spoils.
Speaking to Leicester City's official website post-match, Ndidi stated: "We know when you kick the ball behind the defender, Jamie is getting in.
"His age doesn’t matter, he’s getting the goal. It was a brilliant goal, for me, and it’s just pure Jamie Vardy."
Reacting to his second assist, the Foxes number 6 said: "They expected me to shoot and were coming over (for the second goal).
"I was in a good position but Stephy was free and I just thought he was in a good position also. My performance does not really matter at this moment."
Ndidi has registered four goal involvements (1 goal, 3 assists) from five appearances across all competitions in the new season.
