Five players of Nigerian descent named in Tottenham's Premier League squad for 2024-2025 season
Published: September 15, 2024
After the summer transfer window closed for business, Tottenham Hotspur have submitted their squad list to the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou will be able to call upon the services of five players of Nigerian descent for the first part of the 2024-2025 season.
Dominic Solanke, Tottenham Hotspur's most expensive player in history at 65 million pounds, headlines the list of players of Nigerian descent eligible to represent the north London club in the Premier League.
Solanke has already made his debut in the division for The Lilywhites, going the distance against Leicester City on matchday one, but suffered an ankle injury that kept him sidelined for two consecutive matches.
Having missed the matches with Everton and Newcastle United, the one-cap England international is back in the starting lineup for the north London derby against Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Since making his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace on August 19, 2017, Solanke has logged 135 appearances and has 42 goal involvements (29 goals, 13 assists) to his name.
Ange Postecoglou has supplemented the main squad with four Nigerian players classed as U21 players, namely Timi Adekunle (17), Miracle Adewole (16), Damola Ajayi (18) and Callum Olusesi (17), none of whom have debuted in the Premier League.
For the 2024-2025 Premier League season, U21 players will have been born on or after January 1, 2003.
Solanke is among nine homegrown players named in Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League squad, having spent the formative years of his career with Chelsea.
A homegrown means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).
