'Got to do better' - Man Utd icon Neville calls out Solanke for missed chance in Tottenham's loss to Arsenal
Published: September 15, 2024
Manchester United icon Gary Neville picked on Dominic Solanke when he missed a glorious opportunity to put Tottenham Hotspur ahead during their Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Spurs’ record signing had not been in action since the league opening game against Leicester City last month, missing the last two fixtures due to an ankle injury.
He returned to full fitness ahead of the North London Derby and was named in the starting lineup by Ange Postecoglou as the center forward, with Brennan Johnson and Son Heung-Min being his supporting cast in attack.
In the 15th minute of the game, Son gave the ball away, but it deflected towards Solanke on the edge of the area, but the Anglo-Nigerian forward couldn't generate the required precision to find the back of the net.
Neville who was on commentary duty for Sky Sport, criticized the 27-year-old for missing the opportunity to get on the scoresheet.
"He has got to do better than that. Solanke had about six or seven metres to himself and he takes so much time," Neville was quoted as saying by The BBC.
"You just don't get that level of time and he got it stuck between his feet.”
Solanke's missed opportunity, alongside other missed chances from the home side, would prove costly as Arsenal broke the deadlock in the 64th minute when Gabriel Magalhães headed Bukayo Saka's corner kick past Guglielmo Vicario.
Up next for the Anglo-Nigerian and his teammates is a trip to Coventry Building Society Arena to face Coventry City in the third round of the Carabao Cup on September 18.
