Liverpool add two Nigerian players to UEFA Champions League squad pre-AC Milan
Published: September 17, 2024
Liverpool have added two Nigerian players to their UEFA Champions League squad ahead of the opening match against AC Milan at San Siro tonight.
According to UEFA's official website, the Premier League giants have added centre-back Wellity Lucky-Omoruyi and midfielder Afolami Onanuga to their squad.
Liverpool have added the Nigerian duo alongside first-team players Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliot, Conor Bradley and 19 others to their squad for the tournament through List B.
Rio Ngumoha missed out as he has not played for the club for an uninterrupted period of two years as required by the rules, having just arrived this summer.
There is also no space for Benin City-born centre-half Louis Enahoro Marcus who has featured in two games in the U18 Premier League this season.
Despite being registered for the competition, Lucky-Omoruyi and Onanuga are not expected to feature for the Reds unless the team is hit by a heavy injury or sanction to first-team players.
The duo are expected to take part in the UEFA Youth League and have been named in the matchday squad for the opening match against AC Milan U19s alongside Ngumoha.
Lucky-Omoruyi has played in every game for the Reds Development side in the Premier League 2 this term while Onanuga has also made four appearances in the U18 Premier League.
