'The performances have been very good' - Iwobi on Fulham having more points than Man Utd, West Ham
Published: September 22, 2024
Fulham are now undefeated in four straight games after beating Newcastle United 3-1 in a Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage on Saturday, with the excellent Alex Iwobi providing an assist.
The Cottagers were in front after four minutes thanks to a great finish from Raúl Jiménez, who took the ball on his chest, and then turned before slotting home with his right foot.
Emile Smith Rowe was unfortunate not to double the advantage when his shot clipped the crossbar after combining with fellow Hale End Academy graduate Iwobi.
Midway through the first half, the former Arsenal players combined again and this time it paid dividends, with Smith Rowe making it 2-0 after a quick one-two combination with Iwobi.
In the opening few matches of the season, Smith Rowe has forged a great partnership with Iwobi because of the understanding they have.
After Harvey Barnes halved the deficit, another player with an Arsenal connection Reiss Nelson, restored Fulham's two-goal cushion in stoppage time.
The win sees Fulham move to eighth position in the standings with eight points accumulated from five matches.
Marco Silva's side are ahead of two of the traditional top six teams in England in the shape of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, while West Ham United are four points behind.
Asked by FFCtv post-match to reflect on the season so far, being ahead of Manchester United and West Ham in points, Iwobi siad: "The performances have been very good. Of course, I'll say apart from Ipswich, we feel like we performaed very well. It's just the results which is the most important thing.
"We use this as today that it was a great performance and a great result so if we remain consistent we'll definitely finish better than we finished last season and that's what we are aiming to do."
Iwobi has two goal involvements this season and has started every single game played in the Premier League, while coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup fixtures at Birmingham City and Preston North End.
