After helping Galatasaray beat Fenerbahce, Osimhen given a special bonus of N72 million
Published: September 23, 2024
Victor Osimhen contributed to Galatasaray's 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Intercontinental Derby on Saturday by registering an assist.
Despite not scoring in his first two games since his loan move to Galatasaray, the Napoli-owned center forward has quickly become a terror for opposing defenses.
The Nigeria international was involved in the buildup to Galatasaray's second goal against their Istanbul rivals as he skillfully laid the ball down with his chest in the box, allowing Dries Mertens to tap it past goalkeeper Livakovic.
The last time Osimhen notched assists in two consecutive games was in September 2019 while he was wearing Lille's colors.
According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, it has emerged that a bonus of 1.5 million TL (approximately N72 million in Nigerian currency) has been given to each Galatasaray player, including Osimhen, following the road win at Fenerbahce.
Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek did not promise bonuses to the players before the Intercontinental Derby but decided to reward the players after the impressive win.
With the victory on Saturday, Galatasaray ended Fenerbahce's 32-game unbeaten run in the Super Lig - the longest in the history of the Yellow Canaries.
Before the visit of Galatasaray, the last time Fenerbahce lost in the league was on November 4, 2023 when they were beaten 3-2 by Trabzonspor, with Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu among the scorers.
Osimhen will be aiming to score his first goal in Galatasaray colours when they take on Greek champions PAOK in the Europa League at RAMS Park (İstanbul) on Wednesday, September 25.
