Will Icardi and Osimhen play together? Galatasaray coach reveals his plan for striking duo
Published: September 24, 2024
Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk has revealed his plan for his two star strikers Victor Osimhen and Mauro Icardi ahead of the UEFA Europa League opener against PAOK tomorrow at RAMS Park.
The arrival of the Nigerian striker raised the question on how Buruk is going to manage him and Icardi who has played a key role in their two consecutive Süper Lig triumph.
The Argentine striker was named in the Team of the Season for his effort for the Lions in the 2022/2023 season despite not being the highest goalscorer.
He also scored 25 goals to help them scoop the league title for the second consecutive time last term, finishing as the Division's top scorer.
A move for Osimhen came as a surprise to many, with the availability of Icardi and also the arrival of Mitchy Batsuayi from Fenerbahçe but Buruk has now settled the uncertainty regarding his two star strikers.
During his pre-match duties ahead of the Europa League opener against PAOK, the Turkish tactician reveals that he plans on using the duo at the same time.
In quotes relayed by T24, the Turkish tactician said:"Mauro Icardi wanted to be with the team in the Fenerbahçe derby. We all saw his support for his friends and his joy after the match.
"Mauro Icardi and Victor Osimhen will play together. Hopefully, all three will play together. You never know who will play. Every player is valuable, everyone will play."
Icardi is recovering from an injury which has made him miss the last three games but could get back in action tomorrow and it will be interesting to see if he gets to play with Osimhen together for the first time.
