AC Milan coach reveals why he thinks Chukwueze has not lived up to his billing in Serie A
Published: September 26, 2024
AC Milan boss Paulo Fonseca has explained how Super Eagles' dazzling winger Samuel Chukwueze can overcome his struggles at the club .
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner has been largely underwhelming since he arrived at the San Siro and one would have thought the arrival of a new manager would have changed his plight.
He was brilliant during pre-season, scoring against Real Madrid and registering two assists against Manchester City but failed to replicate the form when the season started.
The Nigeria international started in the Serie A opener against Torino but he had to be brought off at the hour mark and has only started one game since then.
Speaking ahead of the Rossoneri Serie A encounter at the San Siro, Fonseca explained the reason behind the 25-year-old's struggles and how he can become a better player
"Chukwueze had a very good pre-season; I think he just needs to build confidence within the context of Serie A, where you have neither time nor space to think and must make the right decisions quickly,” he told the club's official website.
Unfortunately for Chukwueze, Fonseca has to give priority to the most in-form players at the moment.
The Italian giants have only two wins in five games in Serie A this term and lost to Liverpool in the opening matchday of the UEFA Champions League and the Portuguese will have to turn things around quickly to save his job.
