Crystal Palace academy graduate Victor Moses scores first goal in Championship since January 2010
Published: September 28, 2024
Crystal Palace academy graduate Victor Moses scored his first goal in the English Championship since January 2010, but his goal counted for nothing as Luton Town suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Plymouth Argyle on Friday night at Home Park.
Rami Al Hajj grabbed the opening goal for Plymouth in the first half, striking a venomous shot past Thomas Kaminski before Ibrahim Cissoko got the second in the 69th minute.
Two minutes later, the Hatters pulled one back thanks to Moses, who lashed a low shot home to score his first for the former Premier League side.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner made his debut off the bench last weekend and was subbed in again in tonight's clash, replacing the injured Mads Andersen in the 58th minute.
Cissoko put the final nail in the coffin of the away side in the additional time, beating Kaminski with a low effort to grab his brace.
Before his goal tonight, Moses had not scored in the Championship since January 16, 2010, when he netted the only goal in Crystal Palace's 1-0 victory over Plymouth.
The 33-year-old hasn't played in the English second-tier division since 2010 when he left the Eagles for Wigan Athletic, explaining the reason behind the long hiatus between tonight and the last time he scored.
Moses joined Luton as a free agent earlier this month upon his departure from Spartak Moscow.
