RFS coach labels Osimhen 'a great goalscorer', identifies his potential replacement in starting XI
Published: October 02, 2024
FK RFS coach Viktors Morozs has labeled Victor Osimhen a great goalscorer and namechecked the player to replace him in the starting lineup ahead of his side's clash with Galatasaray.
The Latvian side are set to square up against the Turkish giants on matchday two of the UEFA Europa League at the Daugava Stadium tomorrow but the Super Eagles forward will surely miss the game.
He was excluded from Galatasaray traveling squad due to the injury he picked up in the Süper Lig fixture with Kasımpaşa over the weekend.
The 25-year-old is said to be feeling some pain in his upper left posterior muscle and has been diagnosed with a strain and is now under treatment.
Okan Buruk is now left with Mitchy Batsuayi and Mauro Icardi as his options for the clash and it remains to be seen how long Osimhen will be out.
Speaking in his pre-match conference ahead of the tie, Morozs extolled the Nigerian forward and namechecked Icardi as one to replace him in the starting lineup
In quotes relayed haber7com, he said: "Our defense will have a lot of work to do. Galatasaray is very strong as a team.
"Yes, Osimhen is not playing, he is a great goal scorer. But even if you take Osimhen out, there are players who can play instead of him. For example, Mauro Icardi.
"We will make a good preparation and look for ways to get points. We will do our best as a team and individually tomorrow."
Osimhen grabbed two assists in opening game against PAOK and will now have to wait to get his first goal in the competition.
