After omission from Super Eagles Afconq squad, Osimhen reveals when he'll return from injury
Published: October 07, 2024
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has provided an update on his return to action after suffering an injury in September.
He sustained the injury on September 28 during a 3-3 draw against Kasımpaşa in the Super Lig, where he played a crucial role by scoring two goals and helping Galatasaray establish a three-goal lead before being substituted at halftime.
Due to his injury, Osimhen has been excluded from Nigeria's squad for the upcoming double-header against Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He has also missed Galatasaray's last two fixtures, including a 2-2 draw against Rigas Skola in the UEFA Europa League.
Osimhen watched on from the stands as Galatasaray continued their unbeaten start to the 2024-2025 Turkish Super Lig season, beating Alanyaspor 1-0 thanks to Yunus Akgün's game-winning goal in the 28th minute.
After the match against Alanyaspor, the Super Eagles striker provided an update on his recovery from injury.
In quotes relayed by Fanatik after the match, Osimhen revealed that he anticipates returning to action "After the international break."
Since his loan move from Napoli in September, Osimhen has made an impressive impact at Galatasaray, contributing two goals and four assists in just four matches across all competitions.
His anticipated return will significantly bolster Galatasaray's squad as they aim for success in both the league and European competitions.
Nigeria's interim boss Augustine Eguavoen has picked three center forwards in his squad for the internationals in October, namely Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface and Taiwo Awoniyi.
