Troost-Ekong: One of the six survivors of last Nigeria team to face Libya says he's unfamiliar with opponents
Published: October 10, 2024
Super Eagles stand-in skipper William Troost-Ekong has admitted not being familiar with Libya ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigeria and Libya will do battle on matchday three and four of the qualification campaign and the reason behind Troost-Ekong's admission isn't far-fetched.
The two nations have met each other five times, and the last time they met was in 2018 when the bunch of the current Super Eagles players were yet to be capped.
Of the current crop, only the Al-Kholood centre-back, Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Kelechi Iheanacho, Semi Ajayi, and Wilfred Ndidi were in the team the last time Nigeria faced Libya.
More so, the Mediterranean Knights personnel has also changed, and not much is known about the present crop, which makes the forthcoming games tricky.
Asked in his interview with SoccerBytes, Troost-Ekong admitted that not much is known about the North Africa side, and they have to prepare properly before squaring up against them.
"Every game is a tough game, playing in Africa is never easy and I know they're in town now, so they are taking preparations serious.
"I don't know too much about them, individually as players but we are going to doing video meeting about them
"Last time we played against them in 2018, I believe so. The team has changed a lot , I am not sure it is the same players, we have changed a lot since then but I know it is going to be a difficult game.
"Any team that wants to play against Nigeria will want to play a good game, we have to make sure we are ready."
The 31-year-old is one of the Super Eagles' most experienced and trusted players, and Austin Eguavoen will be hoping he performs optimally in the forthcoming games.
