'Give them award' - Super Eagles left-back Onyemaechi delivers brutal verdict on Libya's dark arts antics
Published: October 12, 2024
Super Eagles left-back Bruno Onyemaechi has taken to social media to make a scathing comment about Libya's dark arts antics during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday evening.
It seemed the Mediterranean Knights were on the brink of earning a point, but super sub Fisayo Dele-Bashiru had other ideas as he poked home the winning goal after a brilliant cross from Moses Simon in the 86th minute.
Onyemaechi has criticized the Libyan players for engaging in multiple time-wasting tactics to slow the game and disrupt the Super Eagles rhythm.
At the slightest touch, Murad Al Wuheeshi apparently faked an injury and was booked by Malawian referee Godfrey Nkhakananga for time wasting during the game.
At the post-match press conference, Nigeria manager Augustine Eguavoen did not hold back as he blasted the Mediterranean Knights for their time-wasting tactics, stating that they wasted up to fifteen minutes in the second half.
Onyemaechi has added more fuel to the fire as he urged the Confederation of African Football to give the Mediterranean Knights an award for time-wasting.
Writing on X, the Boavista defender stated: "Important 3 points. Omo caf suppose give them award on wasting time”.
Onyemaechi has played the full ninety minutes in each of the first three matches contested by the Super Eagles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
