'There's nothing to say ' - Benfica forward reacts to Osimhen's much-talked about overhead kick goal
Published: October 22, 2024
Benfica forward Kerem Aktürkoğlu has shared his thoughts on Victor Osimhen's stunning acrobatic goal during Galatasaray's emphatic 3-0 victory over Antalyaspor at the Corendon Airlines Park Antalya Stadı on Saturday, October 19.
The Nigerian international, who came off the bench in the 78th minute, showcased his remarkable skill by overpowering his defender and executing a powerful overhead kick after a well-placed free-kick from Hakim Ziyech.
Osimhen's goal has garnered widespread attention across Europe, with Turkish reports highlighting it as one of only two overhead kick goals in football history to surpass a height of 2.30 meters.
The striker's remarkable effort reached an impressive height of 2.32 meters, just 0.06 meters shy of Cristiano Ronaldo's record, who scored an overhead kick from a height of 2.38 meters during a Champions League quarterfinal match between Real Madrid and Juventus in April 2018.
Reacting to the goal, former Galatasaray forward Aktürkoğlu expressed his admiration, in quoted relayed by NTVSpor, "Osimhen's goal is really good, there is nothing to say. We were surprised like you, he is a great player.
"Of course I would have liked to play with such a great player. But I am not needed. Yunus is putting on a show, he will be better."
Aktürkoğlu made the move to Benfica this summer on a five-year deal after facing challenges securing a place in the Galatasaray lineup.
The 26-year-old has made a strong start in Portugal, netting six goals and providing five assists in eleven appearances across all competitions.
It remains to be seen if Osimhen's incredible goal in Turkey will be considered for the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award, which recognizes the most aesthetically pleasing goal scored by male or female players each year.
