'My mum is from Nigeria' - Arsenal forward confirms he is qualified to represent Super Eagles, Black Stars, England
Published: October 23, 2024
Versatile Arsenal forward Andre Harriman-Annous has revealed that he is qualified to represent the national teams of England, Nigeria and Ghana, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Barnet native is eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his Nigerian mother Josephine Harriman, a top investment banker based in London, while the Black Stars eligibility comes through his Ghanaian father.
Andre comes from a sporting family as his older brother Brandon Harriman-Annous was at Arsenal's Hale End Academy before transferring to Brentford, from where he moved to Hull City in the summer transfer window.
His cousin is 2016 European Player of the Year and famous England national team professional rugby player, Oghenemaro Itoje.
Andre Harriman-Annous is arguably the top prospect of Nigerian descent right now at Arsenal's academy, second only to Ethan Nwaneri in terms of potential.
Aged 16, he signed a scholarship deal with the Gunners before the start of the 2024-2025 season and has played up his age group in the new campaign, with debuts in the UEFA Youth League, Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy.
So far this season, he has tallied seven goals in all competitions, with one of his strikes against Brighton & Hove nominated for Arsenal's Goal of the Month for September.
"I grew up in Barnet and I started playing football in the park when I was four. My family background is African. My mum is from Nigeria and my dad is Ghanaian," Annous said to Arsenal's official webpage.
"When I was around five or six, I started to develop and I was playing for a local team called Whetstone Wanderers.
"At around seven I was scouted for the Tottenham pre-academy and I was there for a year or so, but then Arsenal and I’ve been here ever since, which is a dream come true because I’m an Arsenal fan!"
Andre Harriman-Annous has cited Arsenal icons Thierry Henry, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil as his role models.
