VfL Bochum defender applies for a new passport after switching allegiance from Germany to Nigeria
Published: October 25, 2024
German-born defender of Nigerian descent Michelle Klostermann has expressed her desire to represent Nigeria women's national team, the Super Falcons, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Born to a Nigerian mother and German father, Klostermann has decided to switch allegiance to Nigeria alter representing her country of birth at U16 level.
She had been in contact with Randy Waldrum before the American's departure as the Super Falcons coach.
The 23-year-old's football journey began at VfL Wolfsburg Women in 2017, followed by stints at Hungarian side Ferencvaros and SC Sand in Germany.
Currently, she plays for VfL Bochum 1848, having joined them in 2024.
Her attacking potential from the defence was evident during her time at SC Sand, registering six goals in 36 appearances for the club.
Michelle Klostermann's agent confirmed her interest in representing Nigeria and the player has already initiated the process of obtaining a new Nigerian passport.
Klostermann's versatility as a left-back and left midfielder makes her an attractive addition to the Super Falcons.
Her offensive prowess, lacking in majority of the current left-back options, could provide the team with a much-needed boost.
This season, the versatile defender has managed seven appearances for Bochum in the 2-Frauen Bundesliga, coming on as a substitute six times and starting just once in a 1-0 loss to league leaders Nürnberg.
