2025 Afcon qualifiers: No Super Eagles return for Red Star Belgrade striker in November
Published: October 29, 2024
Red Star Belgrade striker Peter Olayinka will not be making a return to the Super Eagles in November. as he has picked up an Achilles Tendon injury, which will keep him on the sideline for months.
Olayinka picked up the injury at the end of the UEFA Champions League loss to AS Monaco last week and was unsurprisingly missing in the league fixture with FK Sparkak Subotica on Saturday.
As published on the Red Star Belgrade official website, the 28-year-old has successfully undergone a knee operation, but there is no certainty regarding his return date.
Olayinka is one of the first names on the teamsheet of the Serbian side, having failed to start just two games across all competitions this term and has bagged four goal involvements.
He helped the club win the Serbian SuperLiga last term, netting eight goals in the regular season and three during the Championship round.
Though it is yet to be known when the Ibadan-born forward will return to action he is certainly going to be out till the new year.
This implies that his absence from the Super Eagles will have to continue as he will certainly not be called up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda next month.
Olayinka hasn't been called to the Super Eagles squad since the 2022 AFCON with his last appearance being in the round of 16 loss to Tunisia.
