Six days after first career Bundesliga assist, tri-national CB Collins receives first Germany U21 call-up
Published: November 09, 2024
Tri-national central defender Nnamdi Collins has received his first ever call-up to Germany U21 squad ahead of international friendlies against Denmark and France this month.
Born in Düsseldorf, he is eligible to represent the national teams of Nigeria and Poland through his father and mother respectively, apart from Germany.
Collins has been capped by Germany at U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 level and has been promoted to the U21 squad after his excellent performances for Eintracht Frankfurt.
He was named in Germany U21 squad for the first time, six days after notching his first career assist for Eintracht Frankfurt in a 7-2 rout of VfL Bochum on matchday nine in the Bundesliga.
At 20, he has broken into Eintracht Frankfurt's first team this season, receiving twelve call-ups and playing in five matches across all competitions.
Collins spent his youth career mainly at Borussia Dortmund, although he started out at hometown club Fortuna Düsseldorf before that.
Manager Dino Toppmöller gave Collins a chance to show what he can do at right-back in the last two games played by Eintracht Frankfurt, against VfL Bochum and Slavia Prague, and he did not look out of place though he was booked in the Europa League tie.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has not been named in the Germany U21 squad because he is recovering from a thigh injury.
