Onyeka, Onyedika, Obasogie report for Super Eagles duty in Abidjan pre-Benin
Published: November 11, 2024
Super Eagles players have started arriving in Abidjan ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game with Benin on Thursday, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Brentford loanee Frank Onyeka, Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika and Fasil Kenema shot-stopper Amas Obasogie are the first set of players to arrive with the other players expected to arrive by Tuesday.
The Super Eagles need one point to secure their place at the 2025 AFCON which will be staged in Morocco, having garnered six points from the back-to-back games against Libya.
They sit atop Group D with 10 points, Benin occupy the second position with six points, Rwanda are in third with five points, and Libya sits at the bottom with a point.
They defeated Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium last month and were awarded the maximum points by the Confederation of African Football after they abandoned the second-leg fixture due to the unsportsmanlike behavior of Libya.
Benin have to avoid a defeat on Thursday to aid their quest of qualifying for AFCON, having not participated in the last two editions of the competition and will be hoping Rwanda drop points against Libya.
After their clash with the Cheetahs, the Super Eagles will round up their qualification campaign with a game against Rwanda next Monday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
