African POTY nominee Lookman scores ninth goal of the season in Atalanta's win at Parma
Published: November 23, 2024
African Footballer of the Year nominee Ademola Lookman continued his fantastic form when he scored a goal and had one chalked off during Atalanta's 3-1 triumph over Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardin on Saturday.
The Super Eagles forward initially found the back of the net in the 9th minute when he buried Mario Pašalić's pass into the middle of the goal but it was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.
He finally got on the scoresheet in the 75th minute by receiving a pass from Juan Cuadrado, which placed him one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and he was able to maintain composure to bury the ball home to secure the maximum points for La Dea.
The 27-year-old has been the most in-form Serie A player in 2024 and has now taken his tally to 18 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, the most recorded by any player in the Italian top flight.
Lookman has seven goals to his name in the Serie A and two in the Champions League, taking his total for the season to nine in all competitions.
Mateo Retegui opened the scoring in this evening's victory, heading the ball home from Raoul Bellanova's cross to net his fourth headed goal of the campaign, the most of any player in the top five leagues in Europe.
Matteo Ruggeri delivered the assist for the second as he fed Ederson who tapped the ball into an empty net before Matteo Cancellieri reduced the deficit.
The victory has moved Atalanta to the first position on the standings, though they have accumulated the same point as Inter Milan who sit second but have scored more goals and have a healthier goal difference than the defending champions.
