'Not a difficult chance' - Townsend insists Ndidi should have scored in Leicester's loss to Chelsea
Published: November 24, 2024
Former Chelsea captain Andy Townsend has insisted that Wilfred Ndidi should have scored during the first half of Leicester City's 2-1 defeat to the Blues in their Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Nicolas Jackson broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, bundling and hassling the Leicester City defenders before slotting home despite the Foxes having opportunities to clear the ball.
With Leicester City trailing by a goal, Ndidi was presented with a glorious opportunity to bring the game back to parity but the midfielder fluffed his lines in the 41st minute.
After meeting a cross from Victor Kristiansen, the Nigeria international failed to get his shot on target as the ball bounced awkwardly in front of him, making it difficult to adjust his feet.
Townsend, who was on commentary duties for the Premier League world feed, highlighted that it was not a difficult chance to score.
"Ndidi, left side, here he comes. Just get over it, hit the target. That's not a difficult chance for a midfield player," Townsend commented.
Jim Proudfoot added: "Well he did score in the Foxes last Premier League win over Chelsea, that was back in 2021. Should have, at the very least, forced Sánchez into making a save there."
Ndidi has scored two Premier League goals against Chelsea—more than against any other team in the division—and found the net the last time the Foxes defeated the Londoners in the top flight, back in January 2021.
