Chelsea add younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee to Conference League squad pre-Astana
Published: December 10, 2024
Chelsea have added Richard Olise, the younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, to their UEFA Conference League squad ahead of the clash with FC Astana on Thursday.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have fielded a weakened side since the start of the competition, thereby creating opportunities for youngsters like Tyrique George to get some taste of first-team football.
The weather condition for the clash with Astana, which will take place in Kazakhstan, is unfavourable, and the Blues have decided to add more youngsters to their squad to protect the first team members.
Olise is one of the players to benefit from the decision, and the talented right-back will be relishing the opportunity to get involved in the matchday squad with the first team.
He has represented the development team this season in the Premier League 2 and the English Football League Trophy.
The 20-year-old has started three games in the Premier League 2 but was named in the starting line-up in the three group games played before Chelsea's elimination from the EFL Trophy.
Enzo Maresca has Moisés Caicedo and Malo Gusto as right-back options, but none of them is yet to play in the Conference League this term, which could offer a chance for Olise to get some minutes against Astana.
Richard Olise officially joined Chelsea at U9 level and signed his first professional contract in September 2021.
