CHAN Eagles striker Sikiru Alimi sends warning to Ghana with 23-minute hat-trick in friendly
Published: December 11, 2024
The home-based Super Eagles, also known as CHAN Eagles, intensified their preparations for the 2025 Africa Nations Championship qualifiers with Ghana on Wednesday with a friendly game with non-league side Emmydinho Academy.
It was a comfortable victory for the Super Eagles as they thrashed the amateur side 5-0.
Remo Stars striker Sikiru Alimi bagged a hat-trick while Shooting Stars forward Jide Fatokun and Plateau United's Vincent Temitope scored the other goals.
Alimi scored a 23-minute hat-trick, finding the net in the 19th, 22nd, and 42nd minute to lead the Super Eagles to a resounding victory over Emmydinho Academy.
The Super Eagles will face Ghana on December 22 in the first leg of the CHAN play-off before they meet in the second leg on December 28 in Nigeria.
The winner of the two-legged tie will secure a spot in the 2024 African Nations Championship, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania next year between February 1 and February 28.
Ghana advanced to the 2022 African Nations Championship at Nigeria's expense after a penalty shootout decided the tie following a 2-2 aggregate result.
The Nigerian team is being led by Austin Eguavoen, and he is being assisted by Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu.
Having guided the Super Eagles to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Eguavoen will now aim to achieve the same with the CHAN Eagles, a team composed of only players based in Nigeria.
