'He's an amazing manager' - Ndidi hails van Nistelrooy, insists Leicester have the quality to remain in PL
Published: December 27, 2024
Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has thrown his weight behind new manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy, expressing his admiration for the Dutchman's approach despite the team's struggles in the Premier League.
The Foxes have had a dismal season so far, with only three wins from 18 matches, leaving them in the relegation zone with just 14 points.
However, Ndidi believes that van Nistelrooy is the right man to turn things around.
Van Nistelrooy assumed managerial duties at Leicester City in late November, taking over from Steve Cooper, who was relieved of his role.
The former Manchester United striker was handed a contract until June 2027, marking his second major managerial role.
Despite a promising start, which saw the Foxes secure a 3-1 victory over West Ham United, Leicester have since slumped to three consecutive defeats, including a 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Boxing Day.
However, Ndidi remains optimistic about the team's future under Van Nistelrooy.
"He's an amazing manager with an amazing personality who is trying to put the team together," Ndidi told The Punch.
"He's building up from there, and with time, we will get his philosophy and win games. There are still many games to play, and we are up for it."
The 28-year-old, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury and missed the Foxes' recent defeats, is confident that Leicester have the quality to escape relegation.
"We have the quality to remain in the league. Things are not going the right way now, but we have the quality to get there with time."
Ndidi has been a key player for Leicester City since joining the team in 2017.
He signed a contract extension in July, which will see him remain at the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2027, despite speculations which linked him with moves to top European clubs.
